Two towns, a river and two bridges: An exploration of the movement in maps.

Mike Middleton

This paper explores the mutability of maps and the landscape. It looks at what maps tell us about movement and how it is this that connects us with how people experienced the landscape in the past. The paper explores how it is the movement in maps that is often overlooked as we tend to focus on place. It explores how old ways of movement are lost and subsumed back in to the fields; at how both the maps and the landscape are changing and at how the old ways may be lost but through Mapworking they are waiting for us to find them again so that we might move along them again.
